Reports have suggested Manchester City could be found guilty on a majority of the Premier League charges they face, although no official determination has yet been published.
Within hours of the news breaking, former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea quipped on X that he might have an extra league championship winner’s medal due to him.
The same joke was used by his compatriot, former United midfielder Juan Mata, who was on television punditry duty as England played Spain at Wembley.
The quips were made tongue in cheek, presumably, but have been part of the general conversation as the football world wonders what ramifications may await if indeed the reports are accurate and City are found guilty.
