United may have spent £155m on a midfield reboot this summer, but Kobbie Mainoo should be the first name on the team sheet for Sunday’s Manchester derby.
Mainoo has always been loved by United fans, who have even come up with their own rendition of Billy Ocean’s ‘Love Really Hurts’ in tribute to their homegrown hero.
However, he has endured a frustrating 12 months, from being inexplicably frozen out by the hapless Ruben Amorim to being snubbed by England boss Thomas Tuchel at the World Cup.
A lack of minutes in pre-season even saw Mainoo start on the bench as United opened their Premier League campaign with a disastrous 2-0 defeat at newly promoted Hull.
