A few years ago I was contacted by the grandson of the late Tom Tyrrell, who said the family would like me to have his collection and archive. From the outset I was honoured, as I was one of many whose education on the history of Manchester United was formed by the books Tom wrote with David Meek.

I spent considerable time working through the archive, digitising it and then preparing it for the best use I could think of.

For any United supporter, the archive is just beautiful, and personally I have felt much more deeply connected to the club listening to Tom’s personal interviews with so many people, many of whom have since passed away.
