‘That’ll be great, that,’ Michael Carrick said in his post-match press conference after the Manchester derby when asked if he anticipated an apology from Pro Ref following the controversy around Erling Haaland’s winning goal. ‘Yeah, I can’t wait for that.’
Haaland put the ball in the net just before the hour mark at Old Trafford, but, in acknowledging his team-mate Enzo Fernández was offside, coyly accepted the flag of the referee’s assistant that disallowed it. The Norwegian is a world-class finisher, and a modern striker at that, and knows to act first and deal with the consequences later.
