Manchester United's return to the Champions League has immediately brought with it a reminder of what the competition is supposed to feel like.
After two years away from Europe's premier club competition, United discovered their eight opponents for the new-look league phase on Thursday evening. Bayern Munich, Roma, RB Leipzig and Sabah will visit Old Trafford, while Michael Carrick's side will travel to Atlético Madrid, Sporting CP, Villarreal and Como.
It is a draw containing almost every type of European experience. There are ghosts of United's greatest night, reminders of some of their most painful exits, familiar continental opponents and two clubs against whom there is no meaningful European history at all.
