I was accused of being a Brighton fan on social media this week, following the launch of The 1878.
That simply isn’t true. I’m a passionate Manchester United supporter who grew up watching the glory years under Sir Alex Ferguson. Hated, adored, never ignored!
Sadly, those days are a distant memory and from being the club all rival fans aspired to be, the standard bearers for English football, I now find myself looking at teams like Brighton with a mix of envy and admiration for how impressively they go about their business.
Nobody is suggesting United should become Brighton. United's history (which is pretty much all we can cling onto right now), stature and expectations are incomparable.
