Before a ball was kicked this season, Michael Carrick boasted the best record of any Premier League manager this year.

This season, Manchester United have six points from their first six games, which is not only their worst return from that number of matches since 1986, but over a season, a point a game would have been enough to see United relegated last season.

It has been a run of results which has seen Carrick become the favourite in the ‘sack race’, and as the former midfielder winced after watching his team concede a bizarre added time equaliser against his former club Tottenham on Saturday, it started to feel less convincing that he was not as culpable as his players for another shocking performance - especially after his post-match comments where he once again insisted he was not concerned about the intensity of his players.
